After recovering from the anxious experience (see the story of Femke), we started to realize how serious the disaster appeared to be. We saw boats and buses lying hundreds of meters away from the coast, houses have been totally devastated. As soon as the sea turned calm again, we were recommended to leave the hotel as soon as possible, as another tsunami would follow. A monk in his convent took care of us during the two days we spend there waiting for help.
Back home we wanted to help the people of Koggala, who had also helped us. We experienced the tsunami disaster with them, but afterwards we could return to our houses and family, while the Koggala villagers had lost everything. After the monk had contacted Ariane, we rapidly started to inform our contacts and to gather aid goods.
