While Willem and I were enjoying a breakfast on safe heights, we witnessed a high wave which had a massive impact on the hotel’s pool, which could easily enter our sea-facing room. Without any doubt, we ran to our room to make sure that our clothes were still dry. As soon as we entered the room, we had to grasp the door to prevent ourselves from being dragged away by the water. Just after that a second wave appeared. Willem was looking at the window and saw the wave bursting through the windows and doors. Minutes of scary moments followed, while we were drifting away by the waves. Meters away, we found ourselves in the back yard of the hotel. We realized that we were lucky.
I am happy to actually do something for the people of Koggala village by starting up this project. My task within the foundation is mainly maintaining the website.
